Japanese Restaurants

Being an expat-family originally from Japan, one of the first thing we did was to seek for good Japanese restaurants.  Here are our recommendations (as of Jan 2016).

Unkai

Kärntner Ring 9, A-1010, Vienna, Austria, +43 1 515 80 9110

http://www.grandhotelwien.com/

On the top floor of the Grand Hotel. Arguably the best Japanese restaurant in Vienna (and certainly the most expensive!) Lunch menu is a good value.

En

Werdertorgasse 8, 1010 Vienna Austria, +43 1 532 44 90

Best cost to quality/taste ratio.  In addition to excellent Sushi, they offer many casual dishes that are prevalent in eateries in Japan but not so outside.   Lunch menu (Saturdays too) is one of the best bets in town.

Hidori

Burggasse 89, 1070 Vienna, Austria, +43 1 523 39 00

Very authentic Japanese  “pub” (for a lack of better word). Their speciality is yakiori/kushiyaki (grilled meat and/or vegetable skewers)

Please note, Japanese almost always dine when drinking!

Kojiro  Japanisches Restaurant

Rechte Wienzeile 9, 1040 Vienna, Austria Tel.+43 1 586 62 33

(near Naschmarkt)

Very small place that serves only sushi.   It looks more like a take-away shop than a restaurant.   Apparently, they cater to receptions held by the Japanese embassy and businesses in Vienna.  There is another restaurant of the same name close by that is affiliated but not the same.  Their opening hours are more like shops than restaurants so call ahead.

We hope you will enjoy!
